TEACHING

" The purpose of music education, in my own terms, is to develop a student’s sense of self worth, creativity, socialization, comprehensive musicianship, and confidence through music. This definition of purpose empowers me to become a music educator through my passion, admiration, and self worth I have found as a musician and educator. There is no end to what students can accomplish in the world, and my goals include giving students the chance to explore the music around them with no preconceived notions, no added limitations, and to be able to provide them with the most authentic learning experience that will cultivate and inspire a growth mindset. Some of the most effective methods for teaching this include the Orff Schulwerk method, elements of the Kodaly Method, and maintaining a Growth vs. Fixed mindset. Both Kodály and Orff believed that discovering the wonders, pleasures and beauty of music should be a central focus in musical education, and that music education should be social, and ideally, rooted in students’ heritage and culture.
